Football Media Dudes (and Girl) I’d Want to Have a Beer With

After listing the football reporters I think are clueless, its time to list the ones who I’d want to have a beer with

There are football media guys who are clueless (https://mikefarrellsports.com/college/bayless-leads-list-of-clueless-football-media ) and these are media folks I’d like to have a beer with.

Media that talk about football are only allowed on this list…

1. Nick Saban

The GOAT for a reason, he’s a guy who is so knowledgeable about everything. I’ve met him a few times, spoken to him rarely and I was always intimidated but came away impressed.

2. Scott Van Pelt

I’ve actually had the pleasure and it was amazing. We broke bread a few times at restaurants and the attention he gained was uncomfortable. I hosted him at my house once and my beagle Daisy immediately fell in love. A good dude I’d like to have another beer with.

Dec 4, 2023; Jacksonville, Florida, USA; ESPN Scott Van Pelt broadcast before game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium.

3. Dan Katz

Big Cat from Barstool just seems like a every man and the kind of dude you want to have a beer or two with. He is smart enough to come off self effacing despite his stardom.

4. Pat McAfee

He’s high energy and a bit over the top at times but he’s also very real with his takes. He’s a genius who built a punter’s career into media stardom.

5. Kirk Herbstreit

I’ve met Herbie many times and worked with him but only hung with him a couple times on the Home Depot College Gameday bus. He’s a good guy, down to earth and super respectful.

Host Kirk Herbstreit makes a point during the ESPN College GameDay show on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, on the Hesburgh Library lawn on the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend. The show was to highlight the Notre Dame-Ohio State game.

6. Colin Cowherd

This sounds like an odd choice as he’s known to get some things wrong, but he’s a good guy. I’ve only met him once at an ESPN urinal (long story) but having a beer or two with him sounds cool.

7. Joe Tessitore

Yes, he’s dramatic on the air and can try too hard but he’s also funny and down to earth I’m told. He’s also a Boston College grad so there’s that.

8. Robert Griffin III

He’s goofy and a corn ball but he’s also funny, outrageous and seems like he’d be entertaining.

Nov 20, 2023; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Monday Night Football commentator Robert Griffin III at the broadcast desk prior to a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

9. Chris Childers

My buddy here should be first but that would be too easy. I’ve known him forever and he’s as funny as they come. I’d put Rick Neuheisel on here too but I doubt he drinks.

10. Laura Rutledge

She’s just a cool person. I made fun of her once for being steamrolled on the UGA sideline and not only did she handle it well, she made me feel bad about myself for attacking such a nice person.
