Over the last few weeks, the Wisconsin Badgers have landed a handful of recruits by flipping their commitment. After a disappointing season in Madison in Luke Fickell’s second season, the Badgers seem to have lost the identity they built for so many years: running the football. Dating back to his days at Cincinnati, Fickell has never been run-first like most were used to seeing in Madison. After QB Tyler Van Dyke went down early in the season, Braedyn Locke took over but struggled. Will Carter Smith be the answer for Wisconsin, and how does the rest of the 2025 recruiting class look for the Badgers?
Carter Smith
Fort Myers, FL (Bishop Verot)

After a year of being committed to the University of Michigan, Carter Smith flipped his commitment on November 24th. At almost 6’3” and 185 lbs., Carter Smith has a nice build for a quarterback. A four-year varsity starter, Carter Smith has tallied 8,828 passing yards, 87 touchdowns to 17 interceptions, and a 60% completion percentage. Smith added 2,640 yards and 57 touchdowns on the ground but had 11 fumbles, four of those coming his senior season. Fickell and the Badgers will want Smith to cut down on the turnovers, but his other offensive stats show a lot of promise.
Carter Smith was a two-sport athlete, getting offers for baseball in addition to football.
Smith held 22 offers but chose the Badgers over schools like Florida State, Cincinnati, and Purdue.
Mason Posa
Albuquerque, NM (La Cueva)

Wisconsin has always been known for their linebackers, and it looks like they’re getting another good one in Mason Posa. Posa, the top-ranked recruit coming from New Mexico, stands at 6’3” and 210 lbs., making him threatening for opposing offenses. Through his first three years of varsity football, Posa has tallied 226 tackles, 177 solo tackles, 18 sacks, 44 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and seven interceptions. If he can adjust to the next level, Mason Posa could be the next great Badger on defense.

Logan Powell

Standing at 6’4 and 280 lbs., Logan Powell has the physical tools to be a great player on the offensive line, and his size should give him the versatility to play inside or out. He’s quick, athletic, and strong, which should allow him to see the field with a little more polishing, but that should not take too long. Logan Powell is great at not giving up on blocks, staying engaged, and driving the defense back. In pass schemes, Powell effectively gets his rusher down quickly, buying time for his quarterback. Powell has the build, physical tools, and highlights to make an impact for Wisconsin.
Logan Powell also has baseball and basketball experience, playing both in his youth.
Powell held 26 offers but chose the Badgers over schools like Oklahoma, Alabama, and Arizona.
