The James M. Bennett High School Clippers football program, based in Salisbury, Md, boasts a talented roster, led by 6-foot-3, 210-pound quarterback Liam Nelson.
Nelson grew up a baseball player, winning Little League titles, taking home multiple trophies for winning the Home Run Derby, traveling throughout Maryland and beyond, knocking the cover off the baseball.
As a ninth-grader, Nelson took up the game of football and quickly became the starter at quarterback for the JV team. By season’s end, Nelson had moved up to varsity.
By the halfway point of the next season, Nelson won the starting job under center as a sophomore. Nelson proceeded to lead the Clippers to their first win in recent memory and it was over a county rival.
Nelson has been a team captain for three seasons.

Last season, Nelson passed for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns. Against Parkside, Nelson threw three TD passes in a 35-34 win. In a 64-0 rout of Washington, Nelson threw five touchdown passes. For his efforts, Nelson was named to the All-Conference team.
In an intense training regimen and workout schedule, Nelson focuses on developing his quarterback skills and physical conditioning. During the spring and summer, Nelson can be found in the weight room four days per week, along with field training six days a week.
During the winter, Nelson might as well sleep in the weight room because he is in there six days a week and is doing field work every day, no excuses and without fail.

In addition, for the last two years, Nelson has honed his quarterback skills under the expert tutelage of Chris Baucia of the Quarterback Factory.
Nelson also plays basketball and baseball for the Clippers, but make no mistake, football is Nelson’s main focus.
In the classroom, Nelson maintains a 4.75 GPA and scored a 1280 on his SAT. As a result, Nelson has garnered interest as a student-athlete from such schools as Yale, Columbia, Penn, Dartmouth, Bucknell, Delaware, Delaware State, Towson, Sacred Heart, Lafayette, Morgan State, Bowie State and Wingate.
If the college coaches from the above schools are looking for a quarterback with athleticism, good size for the position and who can put his throws at any spot on the field, get Nelson’s signature on the dotted line and put him in the game, coach.
The Godfather of Recruiting, Mike Farrell, said this about Nelson:
“2026 QB Liam Nelson can make all the throws, great ATH with very good size as well, 6-3, 200.”—Mike Farrell
