Coming off a 7-4 campaign last season, the Lake Norman Wildcats of Mooresville, N.C., return a talented roster of football players in 2025, including versatile 2027 S/ATH Mason Hefner.
At 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Hefner is a mismatch when offenses try to isolate him because of his frame, speed (4.6 in the 40-yard dash) and his football instincts.
Those instincts instill trust in his coaches that Hefner can produce in pass coverage and make plays in pursuit and the open field. Last season for the Wildcats, Hefner recorded 75 total tackles (45 solo stops), two INTs and three pass breakups.

Hefner has played the game of football since he was 5-years-old. He started learning the game on offense, playing several positions like quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end. Then he moved to defense and played linebacker and now is a ball-hawking safety.
Hefner’s athleticism can be attributed not only to football but to wrestling and track and field. Now he focuses on the gridiron and becoming the best football player he can be.

On the academic side, Hefner works just as hard and maintains a 3.7 GPA.
Hefner is as coachable as they come, which is a coach’s dream. In addition, Hefner is a young man of high character. These two attributes instill further trust in his coaches that Hefner can make plays when his jersey number is called.

Hefner trains consistently to stay in game-ready shape, working hard to improve his strength and agility. He has attended summer football camps at Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State and mega camps at Gardner-Webb and Kennesaw State to learn the game and his position from college coaches.
With the ability and football IQ to grow in any defensive system at any position, Hefner has the skill and versatility not only to compete but to succeed at the Division I level.
The Godfather of Recruiting, Mike Farrell, said this about Hefner:
“2027 verified 3-star DB/ATH does it all. 6-1, 195 with ball skills and he’s a hitter.”
