Clickbait Deion Got Me Again

Shedeur and Shilo never actually bought Prime a house, but they want everyone to think that they did

The Deion Sanders stuff never ceases to amaze me. His son, Deion Sanders Jr., runs Well Off Media which happens to film a ton of stuff Coach Prime, his other sons and the Colorado football team do. The latest video, titled “Deion Sanders sons are buying him a new home in Colorado”, just cracks me up.

Call me a hater if you want. Call me a racist, as many Deion defenders do. It’s actually the only play in their playbook for many. But I think I just get pissed when people just sell bull crap. I don’t like disingenuous, never have. In fact, it drives me crazy. Maybe it was being raised by a Marine or maybe I’m just an ass. It doesn’t matter, this stuff just ticks me off.

People say I provide clickbait all the time. And maybe what I call intriguing headlines and provocative content some call trolling and clickbait. That’s cool. But one thing I’ll never do is put out a headline that is completely inaccurate and a lie. If our headline says “Coach gets fired,” you bet your ass we are writing about a coach being fired.

So why do I have to put up with a headline that says his sons are buying him a house when the video shows Shedeur and Shilo looking at a house with their dad, implying that they bought said house for him, but then get hit with “they were just looking, they didn’t buy it”? I’ll read you the headline again. “Deion Sanders’ sons are buying him a new home in Colorado”

The house remains unsold. The point of the video is to give these impressions…

  1. The kids are well off enough now from NIL at Colorado to buy their dad a home.
  2. Deion won’t be going anywhere after his sons leave and will be at Colorado for the long haul.
  3. The Sanders kids are givers.

Maybe the third one is true, and maybe the first one is true as well. If they actually do buy the house (not sold yet, as I said), and it comes from their money and now Deion’s $45 million net worth, then great. And maybe No. 2 will be true as well. But right now, it’s all a facade. It’s propaganda and a publicity stunt. And it’s a recruiting tool and nothing else.

Sep 2, 2023; Fort Worth, Texas, USA; Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders talks to line judge Bret bascule in the second quarter against the TCU Horned Frogs at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

So why is your site writing about this again? You already did an article. You’re just trying to get clicks off of Prime. And to some extent, that’s true. I explained why we cover a 4-8 football coach so closely here. He’s an icon, we are fascinated with icons. Or at least I am. Heck, Deion even fooled me into writing that he should be the highest-paid coach in college football once.

But the main reason is simple. The Deion defenders simply say haters are jealous or racist. Never once do they actually LOOK at what he’s doing or saying (or in this case what Deion Sanders Jr. is misleading) and think — huh. Weird. It says they are buying him a home, and the video implies as much, but it’s not real. I feel misled.

The simple-minded defenders of Deion infuriate me. And, like a moron, I argue with them with zero chance of a rational discussion. So maybe they are laughing because it gets under my skin. But I mean, even if they were buying him a house, why is it being filmed and promoted? Is self-promotion from the man who said he wishes he had more privacy this past season not infuriating?

You’re right, Deion fans. He’s in my head rent-free. He’s got me, and this is just what he wants, what he does, and what makes him a genius. He’s one of the best athletes to ever live but also one of the greatest self-promoters in the history of mankind. And a simple misleading video from his son’s production company did it again. It triggered the old dude yelling at the clouds.

It’s honestly genius. But man, it frustrates me.
