In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition, he figures out if Malachi Coleman will re-commit to Nebraska…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics from the recruiting trail and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Cade McNamara to Iowa means offensive changes.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Kirk Ferentz respects McNamara a great deal and covets leadership and a guy who doesn’t make a ton of mistakes. And Iowa needs a QB badly who can actually make some tough throws downfield. So this is a great fit. But biggest question? Will his son, Brian, remain as the offensive coordinator after a dismal season on that side of the ball. And did McNamara get some assurances about changes to the offense so that he can put out some NFL Draft film? My guess is that offensive changes are coming.

Michigan Wolverines quarterback Cade McNamara runs the offense against the Colorado State Rams during the first half Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022.

2. Malachi Coleman will end up somewhere other than Nebraska.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The home state star decommitted from Nebraska in what many deemed a surprise since he committed when they had no permanent head coach. Is this because of the arrest of Mickey Joseph who was a coach he loved for the Huskers? Maybe. But while Michigan, Miami, Oregon, USC, UCLA and others will show interest, I think the fact he chose Nebraska without a head coach is a great sign for Husker fans. Once he meets Matt Rhule and the staff he assembles I think he’ll be back in the fold. A dark horse in the race? Georgia. But I’m still betting Rhule to close the deal.

3. DE Joshua Mickens lands at Ohio State.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The Indiana 4-star who can also play LB was committed to Brian Kelly and LSU for awhile due to his ties to Kelly and Brian Polian from their days at Notre Dame. But now that he’s taken an official to Ohio State and the Buckeyes have turned up the heat on him, he’s landing in Columbus by all accounts. And what does this mean for the Buckeyes and their pursuit of players like Keon Keeley, Damon Wilson and Matayo Uiagalelei? That’s to be determined.

Lawrence Central Joshua Mickens (7) does some warm up drills during Cathedral vs Lawrence Central at the IHSAA Football S6 Sectional Championship, Nov 4, 2022; Indianapolis, IN, at Lawrence Central High School.
